Several events are expected to bring thousands of people to the Central City during Labor Day weekend.

Our Street Night Market will take place Sept. 5 along R Street, Chalk It Up! returns to Fremont Park Sept. 5–7, and the Sacramento Rainbow Festival will be held on Sept. 6 in Lavender Heights.

With increased activity expected throughout Sacramento, the City’s Office of Nighttime Economy encourages attendees to plan ahead and take a few simple steps to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

City public safety teams will also be present throughout downtown during the holiday weekend to support residents, businesses and visitors. This coordinated effort reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

“This is a great weekend to experience Sacramento, with several signature events bringing people together across the Central City,” said City Nighttime Economy Manager Tina Lee-Vogt. “We encourage folks to prepare, come out, enjoy the events, and look out for one another so everyone can have a safe and positive experience.”

Here are five tips before heading out:

1. Know your event

• Check the event website and social media accounts before leaving for updated information on hours, tickets, entrances and policies.
• Review rules for bags, food, beverages and other items, which may vary by event.
• Be prepared for identification checks or security screenings, if required.

2. Know your transportation plans

• Expect increased pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic and allow extra time to reach your destination.
• Consider public transit, walking, biking, or using a rideshare service.
• If you plan to drink alcohol, arrange a safe way home before heading out.

3. Know before you park

• Check parking options and temporary street restrictions before arriving.
• Park in a well-lit, populated area and be aware of your surroundings.
• Watch for temporary event-related signs and street closures.
• Consider reserving parking in advance through SacPark.

4. Know your limits

• Drink responsibly and stay hydrated throughout the day.
• Keep track of your beverage and never leave it unattended.
• Follow the alcohol rules established by the event or venue.

5. Look out for yourself and others

• Stay aware of your surroundings and keep track of the people in your group.
• Walk on busy, well-lit streets and avoid dark alleys and shortcuts.
• If you see something concerning, notify event staff, security or law enforcement, as appropriate.
