Professional development scholarships available for Sacramento artists

Artists living in the city of Sacramento can apply for a scholarship to attend an eligible professional development course, class or workshop.

The City of Sacramento’s Office of Arts and Culture is offering 450 scholarships valued at $100 each. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 21 or until 450 applications are received, whichever comes first.

Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The professional development scholarship is part of the City’s broader strategy to invest in the creative sector using federal American Rescue Plan Act reinvestment funds.

“These scholarships give Sacramento artists an opportunity to develop their skills, explore new practices and learn from experienced instructors,” said Melissa Cirone, grants and programs manager for the Office of Arts and Culture. “Supporting the professional growth of local artists helps strengthen Sacramento’s broader arts and culture community.”

Artists working in any discipline are eligible if they live within Sacramento city limits. Those who are unsure whether they live in the city can confirm their address using the City’s Find Your District tool.

Each eligible artist may apply for one scholarship covering attendance for one course, class or workshop listed on the Office of Arts and Culture’s program webpage. Scholarships cannot be applied to classes that are not included on the posted schedule.

After the application period closes, the Office of Arts and Culture will email selected applicants a payment code. Applicants should provide an email address they check regularly and monitor their spam folders to ensure they receive the message.

Recipients will use the code to register directly with the instructor through the instructor’s website or registration platform. The Office of Arts and Culture does not process class registrations.

Applications must be submitted through Submittable.

The full list of participating instructors and eligible classes is available at the bottom of the program webpage. Questions about a particular class should be directed to its instructor.

The Office of Arts and Culture may open another application period in March 2027 if scholarships remain available. Previous scholarship recipients may be able to apply again, depending on availability.
