The City of Sacramento is accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations for $225,000 in grant funding through the Ann Land and Bertha Henschel Memorial Fund.

The fund provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations serving people in need within the city of Sacramento. Applications for the 2027 grant cycle are due by 3 p.m. on Sept. 30.

“The Ann Land and Bertha Henschel Memorial Fund helps local nonprofits provide critical resources and services to Sacramento residents who need them most,” said Julie Garen, interim program manager with the City’s Youth Development Administration. “We encourage eligible organizations to review the requirements and apply for this funding opportunity.”

To qualify, organizations must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, have an office or facility within the city of Sacramento and serve residents in need within city limits.

The Ann Land Memorial Fund was established in 1914 with a $200,000 bequest to the City from former Sacramento Mayor William Land as a memorial to his mother, Ann Land. In 1952, Bertha Henschel gifted $275,000 to the City to establish a fund in her name. Additional contributions have since been made to the funds.

Each year, interest earnings from the funds may be distributed to nonprofit organizations. The Sacramento City Council appoints community members to the Ann Land and Bertha Henschel Memorial Fund Commission, which reviews applications and awards grants to qualified organizations.

The number of grants awarded for the 2027 cycle will be determined at the commission’s Nov. 4 meeting. Applicant organizations are required to have a representative attend the meeting in person to remain eligible for funding.

The grant performance period runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2027.

Organizations can review the full eligibility requirements and submit an application through the City’s online grants portal. Applicants must register and log in to apply.
