Nearly $1.5 million in violence prevention grants available for Sacramento community organizations

Nearly $1.5 million in grant funding is available to city of Sacramento community organizations working to prevent violence and connect at-risk youth and young adults with services and opportunities in Sacramento.

The funding is being offered through two grant programs administered by the Sacramento Police Department’s Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Both programs support evidence-based and evidence-informed strategies to reduce community and gang-related violence, strengthen community partnerships and create positive opportunities for young people.

“Preventing violence requires strong partnerships with the organizations that know our communities and work directly with young people every day,” said Dr. Nicole Clavo, OVP Manager. “These grants will help support programs that intervene before violence occurs, connect youth with resources and create opportunities for a safer future.”

Two grant opportunities available

Gang Prevention and Intervention Taskforce (GPIT) Grant Program

The City has allocated $1.2 million for organizations providing violence prevention and intervention services to youth and young adults ages 10 to 24 who are disproportionately impacted by community and gang-related violence.

Organizations may apply for grants of up to $200,000 to support activities including:

  • Education, workforce development, employment and job training.
  • Outreach, case management, mentoring and supportive services.
  • Partnerships with the Office of Violence Prevention, Sacramento Police Department and community-based organizations.

Violence Interruption, Disruption and Suppression (VIDS) Grant Program

The City is offering $275,000 through the VIDS program, with one grant award anticipated.

The program focuses on interrupting and disrupting violence among high-risk youth and young adults ages 13 to 24. In addition to prevention and intervention services, eligible activities include community responses following critical incidents and proactive efforts to prevent violence when credible information indicates an increased risk.

Who can apply?

Both grant programs are open to qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that:

  • Are registered and in good standing with the California Secretary of State and California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts.
  • Have at least three years of experience providing violence prevention or intervention services to youth and young adults.
  • Are in good standing with the City of Sacramento, including previous grant agreements, if applicable.

Applicants should demonstrate organizational capacity, established community partnerships and experience serving youth impacted by violence.
