As temperatures cool and rainy weather returns, it’s time to give your sprinklers a break.
Starting November 1, the City of Sacramento’s fall and winter watering schedule takes effect, reducing outdoor sprinkler watering to just one day per week.
Under the schedule, residents and businesses can water their landscapes once a week, on either Saturday or Sunday, at any time of day.
“During the cooler fall and winter months, lawns and plants typically need less water to stay healthy,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation manager. “Shorter days, lower temperatures and seasonal rainfall mean landscapes can often thrive with little or no supplemental watering.”
Reducing sprinkler use helps conserve water, prevent unnecessary runoff and potentially lower water bills.
Three things to remember:
- Pick a weekend day. Sprinkler watering is allowed on Saturday or Sunday, but not both.
- Adjust your sprinkler timer. Update automatic irrigation systems to reflect the changing season.
- Let the rain do the work. If your landscape is getting enough moisture from rainfall, you may not need to water at all.
Weekday sprinkler watering is not permitted.
The schedule remains in effect through February 28, 2027.
