Sacramento Police Department launches Blue Envelope Program to support individuals with disabilities

The Sacramento Police Department has launched the Blue Envelope Program to improve communication between officers and individuals with disabilities or conditions that may require additional support during law enforcement interactions.

The program is designed to assist individuals with autism spectrum disorder, dementia, anxiety and other conditions by providing a way to communicate their needs to officers.

“The Blue Envelope Program is another way we can help make interactions with law enforcement more comfortable and effective for everyone,” said Sacramento Police Sgt. Justin Boyd. “Our goal is to give officers and community members an additional tool to communicate clearly and better understand individual needs.”

Participation is voluntary, materials are free and no registration is required.

Residents can pick up Blue Envelope Program materials at the following locations:

  • Police Department Headquarters: 5770 Freeport Blvd. Materials are available for immediate pickup.
  • Richards Police Facility: 300 Richards Blvd. Call 916-808-4500 to arrange pickup with a community service representative.
