Rental Housing Inspection Program curbs dangerous housing cases by a whopping 22 percent

Eight years ago, lives were lost in a devastating fire on rental property where code violations were left unnoticed. In an effort to curb common violations that led to this tragedy, the City developed the Rental Housing and Inspection Program (RHIP) to routinely inspect rental homes and apartments throughout the city, aiming to make sure residents are safe and protected in their homes.

Since the program’s inception in 2008, more than 22,000 units have been inspected, revealing a total of 52,000 code violations. The RHIP program has reduced housing and dangerous building cases by an amazing 22 percent. Check out the video to get a closer look at the details of the RHIP program.
