Sac Metro Arts Commission now accepting applications for $725k in arts and culture grants

The Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission is pleased to announce that a new round of grants and one new artist residency program totaling $725,000 will be available Aug. 19.

The programs support the City of Sacramento’s “Creative Edge,” a cultural plan adopted by City Council in June 2018 that details priorities for arts, cultural equity, the creative economy and more.

  • $300,000 for Creative Economy grants will be awarded in $15,000 and $25,000 increments to individual artists, non-profits and businesses for innovative projects. Submissions are due Oct. 10, 2019.
  • $100,000 for a Cultural Equity grant will be awarded in $5,000 and $10,000 increments to arts organizations with operating budgets of $500,000 or less. Submissions are due Oct. 10, 2019.
  • $225,000 for a Cultural Equity Investment grant will award three organizations $75,000 each with the potential to receive an additional $50,000 for a second year and $30,000 for a third year, pending fund availability. The grant is available to organizations with operating budgets of $500,000 or less. Awardees will also be provided professional learning mentorship. Submissions are due Oct. 10, 2019.
  • The 2019-20 Artist-in-Residence is available to up to eight artists who will be chosen to work with City staff and communities to create project proposals in every City Council district. Artists will work on-site to tailor the projects to the community and environment. Submissions are due Sept. 30, 2019.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer another crucial investment in the arts,” said Steven Winlock, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission Chair. “When the arts community spoke up, City Council listened, and this latest set of artist grants and programs are a direct response to the passionate people that make up our beloved Sacramento art community.”
