An upcoming information session will give Sacramento residents and community members a chance to learn how to get involved in implementing the City’s Urban Forest Plan.
The City’s Climate Action and Sustainability Team will host an in-person meeting on May 11 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Hart Senior Center (915 27th St.). The session will focus on the Urban Forest Plan Implementation Working Group; a new effort aimed at guiding how the City carries out its long-term tree canopy goals.
City Council previously authorized the formation of the working group, which will include City staff and key tree care partners. The group’s role is to review and help develop ways to support implementation of the Urban Forest Plan, with final decisions subject to City approval.
During the May 11 session, attendees will receive an overview of the Urban Forest Plan and progress to date, along with details about the working group’s structure and expectations. City staff will also host a question-and-answer session for those interested in joining the working group.
“The Urban Forest Plan is a long-term investment in the health and resilience of our city,” said the City’s Sustainability Analyst Ariana Hernandez. “This working group is an opportunity for community members and partners to help shape how we put that plan into action and ensure it reflects the needs of Sacramento’s neighborhoods.”
Adopted by the City Council in 2025, the Urban Forest Plan serves as a long-term roadmap for protecting and expanding Sacramento’s tree canopy. The plan focuses on improving tree equity by prioritizing neighborhoods with the greatest need, while helping reduce urban heat, improve air quality and guide where future tree planting and maintenance efforts are concentrated.
Community members, tree advocates and experts, and other interested participants are encouraged to attend the informational session to learn more about the effort and how to contribute.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP in advance. Those interested in learning more can join the Urban Forest Plan email list for Working Group updates.
