City community and senior centers resume walk-in activities and services

Starting Monday, April 4, the City’s community centers will resume walk-in activities and services, including customer assistance at front counters.

Walk-in activities and front-counter assistance had been put on pause following the onset of the pandemic. Nevertheless, community centers continued to operate, providing essential services and programming for registered participants.

With Monday’s change, residents now can walk in during business hours to access gyms, participate in fitness and wellness programs and submit facility rental applications in person.

Programming for youth, adult and families also will increase when summer program registration opens on Monday, May 2.

“We’re proud to have continued offering vital programs and resources during the pandemic and are looking forward to expanding recreation and enrichment opportunities for everyone to enjoy,” Jackie Beecham, recreation manager for the City’s Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment Department.

YPCE will offer a wide variety of summer camp programs at community centers, parks and swimming pools across the city.  This includes Kids Camp and Summer Oasis for school-age youth and Recreation Explorer Camp for preschool-age youth. Various aquatics activities will be available at pools citywide.

Staff will monitor public health conditions and updates to expand or adjust hours of operation and services as necessary. All locations will continue to support facility rentals and events during non-business hours as staffing permits.

Residents are encouraged to register for a Come Out & Play card to sign up for available classes and events, and to stay up-to-date with YPCE news.

All centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Locations and days of operation are as follows:

  • Belle Cooledge Community Center (Tuesday – Friday)
  • Coloma Community Center (Monday – Thursday)
