A lightning strike on Sunday damaged a traffic signal on Alhambra Boulevard and J Street, causing it to stop working.
The strike occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. It shorted electronic components in the signal and burned some underground wiring, officials said.
City of Sacramento crews have been working with a contractor to repair the traffic signal. Staff have placed temporary signage at the intersection for motorists to follow. The intersection currently is functioning as an all-way stop.
Staff will replace underground wiring and metal infrastructure in the coming days. Full operations are expected to be restored by the end of the week.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution and follow the traffic control signage. They should expect traffic delays and avoid the area if possible.
