City accepting applications for 2023 Planning Academy

Want to learn more about how planning shapes our community? The City of Sacramento is accepting applications for the 2023 Planning Academy.

The free 10-week course provides Sacramento community members with the fundamental knowledge of city planning and how to engage in planning efforts.

“The Planning Academy is a great opportunity to learn more about the planning process and how to best engage in shaping the city of Sacramento,” said Matt Hertel, the City’s long-range planning manager. “This is an exciting time in the city as we are implementing many policies and strategies to make Sacramento more livable, walkable, and better for the health of all residents.”

Topics will include information about how City planning is leading in efforts in combating climate change, improving transportation and encouraging more housing in Sacramento.

Classes take place on Monday evenings from March 6 – May 15, with most sessions hosted virtually. There will be two in-person Monday evening sessions, plus two Saturday field trips.

Applications are open through Jan. 30, 2023.

More than 500 Sacramento residents, business owners, and community leaders have graduated from the Planning Academy since its inception in 2002.

All residents are invited to apply. Visit the Planning Academy online to learn more and apply or contact Laura Tuller, associate planner, at 916-808–3546 or ltuller@cityofsacramento.org.
