Meet the Sacramento Fire Department’s new Public Information Officer

The Sacramento Fire Department has appointed Capt. Justin Sylvia as its new public information officer, the main position that oversees communications to the public and acts as liaison to the media.

Sylvia replaces Capt. Keith Wade in this position. After nearly five years of serving as the department’s lead spokesperson and communicator, Wade is transitioning out of the role and returning to the field.

“Capt. Wade worked diligently to keep the public informed with timely and accurate information from the Sacramento Fire Department, and I am excited to bring that same level of service and professionalism to this critical role,” Sylvia said.

A Sacramento native, Sylvia attended Christian Brothers High School and American River College’s Fire Science and Paramedic School.

In 2002, he joined the Sacramento Fire Department as a fire reserve. He later worked in the logistics division and went on to become a paramedic intern in 2004.

Sylvia entered the Fire Academy in 2006 and graduated the same year. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 2019. He also served as a drill instructor for the Fire Academy in 2021.
