With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the City of Sacramento is reminding people about the limited-time Shop 916 gift card program, which includes this special promotion: Buy a gift card, get a bonus gift card for free.
The promotional offer features:
- Buy a $25 gift card and get a $10 bonus gift card for free
- Buy a $50 gift card and get a $25 bonus gift card for free
- Buy a $100 gift card and get a $50 bonus gift card for free
Shop 916 gift cards can be used at more than 100 participating restaurants, retailers, businesses and shops located in Sacramento.
“The limited-time Shop 916 gift card program offers a win-win opportunity for shoppers to support Sacramento businesses while maximizing every last dollar,” said Valerie Mamone-Werder, the City’s project development manager responsible for the program. “Consumers who use this special promotion for Valentine’s Day gifts and experiences will also positively impact the local economy in meaningful ways.”
While the gift cards do not expire, the promotional offer is available only through Feb. 14, and all bonus cards must be used by Feb. 28, 2023.
To date, nearly $400,000 in Shop 916 gift and bonus cards have been purchased in the city of Sacramento since the inception of the program just over a year ago.
An estimated 51 percent of gift/bonus card holders report they try new places when redeeming the cards, according to survey data staff collected.
Bonus cards are limited to five per purchaser. Regular consumer-purchased gift cards do not expire. Gift cards are purchased through the City’s website at www.shop916local.com.
Shop 916 also offers a volume discount program for one time or ongoing purchases of $1,000 or more. The bulk purchases can be used for employee rewards, customer appreciation, holiday gifts, welcome gifts, incentives, etc.
The electronic gift card, launched by the City in December 2021, is a program that supports local storefront retailers negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Shop 916 gift card can be used at any participating business within the city.
The program is funded from the City Council approved American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding for business recovery efforts.
All local storefront retailers located in the city can participate. The program is open to all businesses within the city of Sacramento that have 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees, with the exception of home-based businesses, franchises, liquor-only stores and cannabis businesses. Businesses can sign up to participate at shop916local.com
