The City of Sacramento’s Park Maintenance Division shared hundreds of pounds of mulch at their first of two giveaway events last weekend. The second mulch giveaway will be this Saturday, March 25 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will held at the South Village Green at William Land Regional Park (on East Park Road near Sutterville and Freeport Boulevard) and is limited to City of Sacramento residents.
“We had a great turnout at the first event and have plenty of mulch to distribute for the coming weekend,” said Shawn Aylesworth, the City’s park maintenance manager.
More than 200 individuals stopped to grab mulch at the first event with many making more than one trip. The mulch is a mixture of fallen trees from the recent storms that staff have worked to clean-up across the park.
Large tree trunk sections are also still available for wood workers and education purposes.
Aylesworth encourages people to bring their own hand tools, containers and tarp to cover mulch in their vehicles. Staff will be available to assist with loading.
