Now hiring: City’s Aquatics Division recruiting for seasonal positions

After seeing more than 100,000 drop-in visits to City pools in 2023, the City of Sacramento’s Aquatics Division is now hiring for another busy summer season.

The Department of Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment (YPCE) is looking to fill positions for lifeguards, senior lifeguards, assistant pool managers, pool managers and cashiers.

“Our aquatics team is dedicated to fostering a secure and supervised swimming setting, ensuring the enjoyment of all Sacramento residents,” Anthony Munoz, recreation manager for the Community Enrichment Division said. “In 2023, we supported more than 200 youth employees to gain leadership and safety skills at our facilities.”

Applicants must be at least 15 years old by June 1, aside from cashiers who must be 16. All lifeguards must be American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR-AED/First Aid certified.

For those who are not yet certified as lifeguards, they can apply for the job now and sign up for a Lifeguard Certification Class. YPCE is holding free Lifeguard Prerequisite Skills workshops in the coming months for the opportunity to earn a scholarship to cover the cost of the certification course.

Lifeguard Class Scholarships are also available for people interested in working for the Aquatics Division through an online application.

Last year more than $35,000 was issued in annual scholarships.

The City operates 17 aquatics facilities including neighborhood pools, play pools and the North Natomas Aquatics Complex.
