‘Make your mark’ with City artist in residence at this Earth Day event April 21

The City’s Office of Climate Action and Sustainability is extending an invitation to community members to paint with a local artist in residence and explore the City’s climate action goals at the upcoming ECOS Earth Day event.

The free, family-friendly gathering will take place on Sunday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Southside Park (2115 Sixth St.).

The event includes live music, plant-based foods, and interactive activities tailored for families. Several City departments will be on site to discuss composting, transportation and more.

Attendees will be able to help create community art piece dedicated to climate action titled “Make Your Mark” with local artist in residence, Taner Pasamehmetoglu.

All ages and skill-levels are encouraged to co-create this large abstract painting.

“The purpose of the piece is to highlight the expected increase in extreme heat days in Sacramento and what we can do as a community to address it together,” Pasamehmetoglu said.

All painting materials will be provided, including upcycled paint. Attendees who want to paint can stop by the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability’s table.

There will be additional opportunities to collaborate on the project in April at the following events:

Note: The times listed above are when the Make Your Mark painting activity will be available. The full events may start earlier and/or end later.

About the City’s Climate Action Plan

The City’s recently adopted Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) outlines policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. The CAAP establishes Sacramento’s greenhouse gas reduction target for 2030 and establishes a climate action goal of carbon neutrality by 2045.

“The City is committed to fostering a more sustainable future for all Sacramentans,” said the City’s Sustainability Analyst Sarah Kolarik. “Meeting these goals will require everyone in the region to learn more about actions they can take.”
