Homeowners in Oak Park now can apply for home repairs through the “Rock the Block” initiative, a community investment program funded in part by the City of Sacramento and led by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento.
“This initiative prioritizes essential home repairs that improve safety, comfort, and overall quality of life, helping Oak Park families maintain stability in their homes,” said the City’s Housing Administrative Analyst Axel Magallanes. “The program’s success is a testament to the unwavering support of hundreds of dedicated volunteers and sponsors.”
Applications are open until Jan. 10, 2025.
The initiative is funded in part by a contribution from the City of Sacramento and specifically allocated to support communities near the new UC Davis Aggie Square innovation campus on Stockton Boulevard.
The City and UC Davis are contributing a total of $10 million for anti-displacement activities, including emergency rent assistance, home repairs and utility upgrades, among other things. So far, $2.95 million of the money has been allocated.
To qualify for “Rock the Block Oak Park,” applicants must live within the designated area in the map and own their home.
Qualified applicants can benefit from a wide range of repairs and improvements, including landscaping, yard cleanup, fencing, external paint, dry rot repair, gutter cleaning, HVAC repair and replacement, roof replacement, pest abatement, window upgrades, water heater replacement, energy efficiency improvements, and other critical home repairs.
Since 2018, “Rock the Block” has made a significant impact through community-driven efforts. With the support of over 4,000 volunteers contributing more than 25,000 hours, the program has completed over 130 home repair projects and more than 30 community projects. Supported by an annual average investment of $400,000, totaling over $2.8 million to date, “Rock the Block” continues to enhance the Oak Park neighborhood and improve the quality of life for residents.
Learn more about the program on Habitat’s website. Applications are available in English, Spanish, Hmong, and Farsi.
A “Rock the Block” event is scheduled for May 9-10, 2025 and will bring together approximately 500 volunteers to complete more than 20 home preservation and community projects in the neighborhood.
