Utilities staff are inviting community groups to apply for grant funding for projects that can help protect, restore or enhance Sacramento’s waterways.
The grants offer up to $3,000 to projects that prevent pollution from entering storm drains, creeks, and the Sacramento and American rivers.
“This is a great opportunity for people who want to help keep our waters clean and make a tangible impact in their communities,” said Emma Burke, an outreach specialist with the City’s Department of Utilities. “By supporting local projects, we can work together to protect our rivers and improve water quality for everyone in Sacramento.”
A wide range of community groups—including local schools, service clubs, youth organizations, homeowners’ associations and nonprofit groups—are eligible and can apply on the City’s website.
Grant funding can be used for materials and supplies, equipment rentals, and recruiting or feeding volunteers.
“People can create educational materials to encourage others to prevent pollution, organize school field trips to learn about Sacramento’s waterways, or even create a community garden that uses eco-friendly pest management,” said Burke.
“We encourage everyone to get creative and have fun.”
The deadline to apply is May 16, and all projects must be completed by June 30, 2026.
