Kitten season is here, and over 3,000 kittens with nowhere else to turn will come through the City’s Front Street Animal Shelter doors this year. Those interested in fostering are invited to attend the Kitten Bottle Baby Course on Saturday, June 13 from 12:30–1:30 p.m. at the shelter (2127 Front St.).
Many kittens arrive orphaned, sick, injured, or far too young to survive on their own. The shelter urgently needs fosters for the most fragile kittens under four weeks old, who require around-the-clock care, including feedings every few hours, even overnight.
“This lifesaving work simply isn’t possible without our dedicated foster volunteers,” said Cat Foster Coordinator Ashlie Rhodes. “Our foster families make it possible for us to save thousands of vulnerable kittens each year. We provide everything they need to succeed, including supplies, training, and support. All our volunteers need to provide is time, space, and love, and the impact they make is truly incredible.”
New and experienced fosters are welcome. Shelter staff will pair foster families with an experienced mentor and provide the support needed to feel confident and prepared. Each kitten requires a tremendous amount of resources to survive and thrive, including formula, heating discs, flea and tick treatment, vaccinations, food, spay/neuter surgeries, and medical care.
Whether you can foster for a few days or weeks, your help can make a significant difference, according to staff. Get started by signing up to become a volunteer on our website.
If you are not able to foster, donating to the shelter helps to provide the lifesaving care these kittens need to grow strong enough for adoption.
