Residents urged to follow public-health protocols in City parks this holiday weekend

As the holiday weekend approaches, the City of Sacramento reminds residents to enjoy parks and public spaces while following State and County public-health orders including maintaining social distancing, avoiding large gatherings and wearing face coverings when keeping six feet from others isn’t possible.

“We know many people want to get out this Labor Day weekend and celebrate like in years past, but as we know, this year is not normal, and the pandemic is still widespread in our community,” said Mario Lara, Director of the Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment.

Sacramento County’s risk level remains in the purple/tier 1 status of the State’s new reopening blueprint, meaning the virus remains widespread. Sacramento County’s latest public-health order states that all individuals should “stay at home as much as possible and carry on with social distancing and face covering protocols.”

All City parks remain open to the public to enjoy for activities such as walking, biking and socializing with other household members. Residents should be prepared for some amenities to be closed in accordance with public-health guidelines. Signage at each park specifies which amenities are unavailable.

“We encourage Sacramentans to continue to visit City parks and ask you do so with COVID-19 precautions and restrictions in mind,” Lara said.
