Traffic Alert: Road closed near Stockton and 34th due to damaged signal pole

UPDATE: This section of Stockton Boulevard has been reopened.

Damage to a large Regional Transit signal pole has caused a road closure on Stockton Boulevard between 34th and 35th streets.

Out of an abundance of caution, and with multiple storms in the forecast, the Sacramento Reginal Transit District (SacRT) removed the damaged pole last night. The section of the road remains closed this morning. City of Sacramento crews have placed temporary signal lights and set up a detour.

Both northbound and southbound traffic lanes on this part of Stockton Boulevard are closed. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution, follow detour/traffic control signage, expect traffic delays and avoid the area if possible.

“SacRT and City teams are working to reopen the road as fast as possible while making safety our priority,” said Ofelia Avalos, engineering manager for the City of Sacramento.

SacRT light rail service is not affected.

The following detour routes have been put into place until further notice.

Northbound: Turn left at T Street and go westbound to 34th Street. Turn right at 34th Street and go northbound to Stockton Boulevard. Turn left at Stockton Boulevard.

Southbound: Turn right at 34th Street and go southbound to T Street. Turn left at T Street and go eastbound to Stockton Boulevard. Turn right at Stockton Boulevard.
