Measure U funds support newly refurbished sports field in north Sacramento

A newly refurbished sports field is ready for use at Hagginwood Park in District 2.

The City’s Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment recently completed the project,  at 3271 Marysville Blvd., replacing the synthetic turf and installing new shock padding.

The existing field was installed in 2010 and was in need of an upgrade, said YPCE Director Jackie Beecham.

“Providing spaces like the Hagginwood Park sports field for physical health, recreation, and fun is another opportunity for YPCE to continue serving youth across Sacramento,” Beecham said.

The City of Sacramento offers more than 100 athletic fields for a wide variety of uses including lacrosse, rugby, tennis, baseball, softball, soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, kickball and more.

The new Hagginwood Park field is striped for both soccer and flag football. Cork filler was used on the turf and will help reduce field temperatures by up to 20 degrees.

The $650,000 project was completed ahead of schedule after an initial expected opening in July. Renovations were funded with $177,952 in State Per Capita Grant funds and the remaining in Measure U tax dollars.
