In anticipation of the holiday festivities, the Sacramento Police Department is providing some reminders to help prioritize safety.
“Enjoy the festivities, but let caution be top priority to all out there,” said Police Information Officer Cody Tapley. “A safe holiday is a happy holiday.”
If your traveling for the holiday season, here some reminders:
- Lock all doors and windows before leaving home to ensure the security of your property.
- Be cautious with social media posts, avoiding sharing travel plans to prevent potential burglaries.
- If you’re traveling, consider informing a trusted neighbor or friend to keep an eye on your home.
- Install outdoor lighting and consider using timers for indoor lights to give the appearance of an occupied home.
- Keep valuables out of sight from windows to discourage break-ins.
- Use reputable delivery services and consider using package lockers to prevent porch theft.
When your shopping during the busy holiday season, please remember:
- While shopping, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid displaying large sums of cash.
- Park in well-lit areas and lock your vehicle, removing valuables to deter theft.
- If you notice suspicious activity, report it to the police promptly.
- As we travel to and from social gatherings and holiday parties please plan
- Safe transportation options for holiday gatherings, such as designated drivers or rideshare services, to avoid driving under the influence.
By following these precautionary measures, the community can contribute to a secure and enjoyable holiday season, according to Tapley.
