Front Street waives dog adoption fees through June 21

Front Street Animal Shelter is at critical capacity, and all adult dog adoption fees will be waived through Sunday, June 21 to help increase adoptions and create kennel space for incoming stray animals.

As the City of Sacramento’s municipal shelter, Front Street takes in multiple stray and lost dogs every day. When a dog is adopted, it gives that animal a second chance and helps make space for more animals in need.

The shelter has a wide variety of adoptable dogs, ranging in size, breed and energy level, with options for many different households and lifestyles.

“Every adoption helps us care for more animals in need,” said Andrea Haverland, public information coordinator for Front Street. “We encourage anyone who has been considering adding a dog to their family to visit the shelter and meet the animals currently available for adoption.”

For those who have never adopted from Front Street, the process is simple.

Visitors can browse available dogs on the shelter’s website ahead of time or walk through the kennels to see who catches their eye. Once a dog is selected, adopters can sign up on the meet and greet waitlist while at the shelter and spend time with the dog alongside a skilled adoption counselor.

Every adopted dog goes home spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Adult dogs are six months and older. This promotion also applies to dogs in foster care.

The shelter, located at 2127 Front St., is open daily from 12–5 p.m. for walk-in adoptions.

All adoptable dogs in the shelter and in foster care can be found through the adoptable dogs page online.
