Sac PD hosts youth internet safety webinar on Feb. 21

The Sacramento Police Department in partnership with Central California Intelligence Center, is hosting a youth internet safety webinar for community members and parents from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

The free webinar, open to all members of the public, will provide parental awareness around internet safety topics, including sextortion and human trafficking.

“During this webinar, we’ll equip attendees with vital knowledge on safeguarding youth from online threats,” Sac PD Sergeant Carlos Martinez said. “Our goal is to educate and empower parents and community members with the tools to protect their loved ones.”

Sextortion is a crime that involves adults coercing kids and teens into sending explicit images online. According to the FBI, from Oct. 2021 through March 2023, the FBI tracked roughly 12,600 sextortion victims — all of them minors.

Attendees must register online prior to the training.
