The City is working to update its zoning regulations for cannabis businesses in response to a comprehensive study completed in 2022, which evaluated the impacts of cannabis businesses on the surrounding community. This effort seeks to revisit and refine the Planning and Development Code, Title 17, which regulates how a property can and cannot be used.
“The City is looking at ways to streamline business opportunities for the cannabis industry, while also ensuring there is minimal impact to the community,” Senior Planner Kirk Skierski said. “We hope to hear from those interested in being a part of the discussion and including community feedback leading up to the final decisions.”
Based on the findings from the study and analysis of Council’s direction, staff prepared preliminary recommendations for Title 17 amendments. These suggestions include eliminating the need for a conditional use permit, allowing storefront dispensaries in more areas of the City, and redefining the land uses in which cannabis businesses may or may not operate.
The project and preliminary recommendations will be presented at the following upcoming events, which will include opportunities for public feedback:
- September 5 Virtual Webinar #1 at 6 p.m.
- September 12 Planning and Design Committee workshop at 5:30 p.m.
- September 19 Virtual Webinar #2 at 10:30 a.m.
The preliminary recommendations along with detailed project information can be found on the Title 17 Cannabis Amendments Project webpage.
