The Department of Public Works has released the latest draft to complete Streets for People, the proposed Active Transportation Plan aimed at making walking, biking, and rolling easier for residents. Now, City officials are asking the community to provide feedback before the plan is finalized.
The draft plan is available for public review and comment online now through April 6. Residents can mark up the document, leave comments, engage with other community members’ comments, and give a thumbs-up to ideas they support.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible because this plan is about making it easier for everyone to get around Sacramento,” said transportation planner Jeff Jelsma. “Most of our daily trips are under three miles, yet most of us drive. This is an opportunity to create more comfortable and connected options for people walking, biking, and rolling in our neighborhoods.”
The Streets for People plan identifies two types of active transportation routes to create an all ages and abilities network for people walking, biking, and rolling citywide. This latest draft focuses on the larger Active Transportation Network, following recent approval of the Neighborhood Connections Network.
The city is also hosting a series of public engagement events, including virtual workshops on March 18 and March 19, where people can learn more and share their input. Additional in-person pop-up events are planned.
