Unused or expired prescription medications can be safely disposed of Saturday, Oct. 24, during a free collection event hosted by the Sacramento Police Department in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The event, part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sacramento Police Department headquarters, 5770 Freeport Blvd. Residents can drop off medications anonymously, with no questions asked.
“Unused prescription medications can pose a risk when they’re left in homes where they may be accidentally taken or misused,” said Sacramento Police Sgt. Justin Boyd. “This event gives residents a convenient way to safely dispose of medications and help keep our community safe.”
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a nationwide effort to prevent prescription drug misuse and encourage the safe disposal of medications. Proper disposal also helps prevent medications from entering the environment and water supply.
