Crews to perform maintenance work on these ditches in the City’s flood control system

The Department of Utilities will soon begin maintenance work along critical infrastructure in the City’s flood control system.

This maintenance will be similar to the critical infrastructure work the City has performed in past years and is expected to take several weeks to complete.

Work will soon be performed at Cascade, Glove Avenue, I-80 North, PG&E, and Riza ditches.

The work performed will include repairing fencing and levee slopes, removing debris that can cause flooding, and vegetation management.

Utilities staff are working closely with the City Manager’s Office, City Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Community Response to ensure the safety and well-being of City staff and those camping in impacted areas.

The Department of Community Response will be coordinating with local service providers to perform outreach and connect people with services.

“Our most vulnerable community members will be offered resources and services while our partners in the Department of Utilities ensure the city’s critical infrastructure is maintained,” said Brian Pedro, director of the City’s Department of Community Response. “Our outreach teams will be reaching out to people experiencing homelessness, offering connections to essential services in the community.”
